Academic Success in RISE
We are deeply commited to offering several in-house services as well as connecting students to campus resources to assist them in their academic success at Michigan State University.
RISE students have exclusive access to several RISE-Specific tutors, available multiple days a week for homework and advising assistance. These tutors are high-achieving RISE students trained in Math, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Writing, the Social Sciences and the RISE Seminars, though each has their own individual specialties. These tutors are free of charge and have office hours several nights a week in the RISE offices. Their hours and biographies can be found here.
High achieving and academically successful upperclass RISE students are selected and trained to serve as mentors for incoming RISE students. RISE mentors hold evening office hours on the 2nd Floor of Bailey Hall and are avialble to connect with students as often as needed. Many of these students live on the third floor or Bailey Hall. Mentors are well-versed in strengths, effective communication, and campus resources.
MAP-Works is an institution-wide assessment tool that students take within the first several weeks of their first year at MSU. Within RISE, the Director and Assistant Director review MAP-Works results and identifies areas where students could use additional support.
